"Its unlikely Shaun Ryder will ever have nothing to say."
These were the words used to promote the public interview between Howard Marks and Shaun Ryder, the Happy Mondays front-man. Unfortunately for the crowd, Ryder didn't actually have a lot to say...
Despite this, the interview between the convicted drug smuggler and the Happy Mondays singer may still go down in hilarious interview history. Ryder is a first-class lyricist who has inspired Manic Street Preachers to name-check him in song and Blurs Damon Albarn to collaborate with him. Hell, Bono has even claimed Ryder as one of the greatest lyricists of all time. He obviously just doesn't appreciate being drilled with questions in front of a (paying) crowd...
Howard Marks:
"I'm usually the f____er getting interrogated!"
It was fitting to say the whole experience was surreal - but anyone expecting anything more was never going to come out satisfied. As an audience, we felt uncomfortable, Ryder wanted to be elsewhere and Marks... well, he did his best - but a response proved harder to get than blood out of a stone (or venom out of a toad). Watch the video and you'll get what I mean.
Were you there? Did you ask a question and get a blank but equally distasteful look in response? Did Marks make you laugh? Were you the guy that asked Ryder for the time? We want your comments. Stay tuned for Part II...
QUOTES OF THE DAY:
Howard Marks:
"Do you like Brighton?"
Shaun Ryder:
"It's alright... better than Blackpool"
